Ready to sell your product online?
Thinking of selling your product or service online?
Worried about where to start?
Confused as to which software to use?
No need to worry. With modern software like Shopify, most of the work is done for you. And with a little guidance, your online shop can be up and running in no time.
Follow these best practices when launching your new store:
Online buyers love a clean and uncluttered shopping experience, so make sure your pages reflect this.
That little ‘secure’ lock on top of your browser is done by securing an SSL certificate. It is super easy to set up, just contact your domain registrar.
The first big image on your homepage is called the Hero Image. Make sure it reflects your brand, and always use a clear, high-resolution image to show off your product in its best light.
Minimize popups—it’s been proven that online shoppers hate them, and will abandon your store if they encounter too many. I suggest not using them at all, but instead incorporating those elements into your site, either in the footer or in a strategic position on your page.
Pictures sell more than words. Keep your descriptions short and sweet, and showcase all you can by using great, professional photos. Need some advice on taking better pictures with your phone? Check out my recent article on just that topic.
Have a clear way for buyers to contact customer support, whether by email, phone, or an online form.
Products don’t sell themselves. Have a marketing plan to drive visitors to your website. Use SEO, Google Business, and social media to get your product out there.
Taking all of this into account, the best software by far is Shopify. I am not affiliated with them by the way—I’ve come to learn they offer the best of all worlds when compared to other programs like Woocommerce or PayPal.
And of course having a professional developer build your site is a no-brainer, if you have the budget. I’m available for hire to make your online selling dreams come true. Contact me today for a consultation.
As always, Happy designing!
Jon
P.S. I am available for one-on-one consultations and instruction in graphic design and all things marketing. Contact me for more information.
